abstract = "{T{\"u}rkiye, a semi-arid country located in the Mediterranean climate
zone, is severely affected by climate change. The observed
decreases in lake storage and drying up in recent years are of
paramount importance for sustainable water management. This
study examines 12 lakes located in the Gediz basin, the Burdur
closed basin, the Konya closed basin, and the Van Lake closed
basin. Water mass changes over the 2002--2025 (present period)
period were analyzed using NASA's GRACE/GRACE-FO satellite data
and the GLDAS hydrological model. Water mass changes were
correlated with the SPEI drought index. In the second stage,
drought projections for the 2041--2060 (future period) period
were made using the HadGEM3-GC31-LL climate model under the
SSP2-4.5 scenario. Using statistical models established in the
past, the potential effects of future drought severity on lake
water bodies were estimated. The study's findings indicate that
a decrease of 166.64 cm in water mass has occurred in the
current period, and this amount may reach 87.65 cm in the
future. The study emphasizes the pressing necessity of
implementing water management policies that are basin-based,
climate-resilient, and sustainable.}",
